Immune and Autoimmune Enteropathies

چکیده
Autoimmune enteropathy characteristically presents in infancy with protracted diarrhea. Underlying disorders of immune function, including regulatory T cells, must be excluded. Treatment options include nutritional rehabilitation, immune suppression, and, in select cases, bone marrow transplant. Copyright © 2006 Nestec Ltd., Vevey/S. Karger AG, Basel

Response to autoimmune enteropathy to cyclosporin A therapy.
Small bowel enteropathies that are associated with an autoimmune process are often resistant to treatment. Two children with autoimmune enteropathy were treated with cyclosporin A for eight months. Both improved, as assessed by growth, small intestinal mucosal morphology, and carbohydrate absorption. Cyclosporin A is useful in the treatment of autoimmune enteropathy. This report also suggests t...
متن کاملNeonatal enteropathies: defining the causes of protracted diarrhea of infancy.
The underlying causes of chronic diarrhea beginning early in life are increasingly well defined. Infectious and post-infectious enteropathies and food sensitive/allergic enteropathy account for the majority of cases. Recent attention has focused on characterizing defined entities, which cause protracted diarrhea in infants and young children. Disorders of intestinal ion transport usually presen...
متن کاملViral Infections and their Role in Autoimmune Diseases, with Emphasis on Mechanisms and Molecular Interactions
Introduction: The exact cause of most autoimmune diseases is still unknown; however, several factors play a role in causing or exacerbating autoimmune reactions. In addition to environmental factors such as bacterial, parasitic, fungal and viral infections, factors such as genetic characteristics and lifestyle are also included. Infections caused by viruses usually trigger a strong immune respo...
متن کاملOverview on Evans syndrome: In the course of Covid-19 pandemic; essentials and approaches
Redundant studies proved coronavirus infection results from a defect in a suitable immune response that may exacerbate immune-inflammatory reactions like cytokine storm and autoimmunity. Evans syndrome (ES) is a rare chronic autoimmune disease that distinguishes it from autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) and immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Reports have shown significant differences in im...
متن کاملChronic Diarrhea Unmasking Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by multisystem inflammation, autoantibody formation, and immune complex deposition in nearly any organ system. Age of presentation is typically around the third decade, more likely in females of African, Hispanic, and Asian origin [1]. The most common initial symptoms include fever, arthralgia, and malar rash. Gastrointe...
